The Walldorf winery is located in the heart of Rheinhessen in Germany. Viticulture has shaped its region and the winemakers’ family for centuries. In 1896 the Walldorf brothers founded what is now the “Walldorf” winery. Much has changed in this long time; Each generation has shaped the winery and the wines in its own unique way. It’s now in the 5th generation and specialises in biodynamic principles to produce unique wines.
Pet Nat (short for Pétillant Naturel) is a natural sparkling wine. Being a fully naturally made wine this means it has been made with minimal intervention from the winemaker who instead leaves nature to do its job and develop the finished product. Pet Nat’s are bottled before primary fermentation is finished, without the addition of secondary yeasts or sugars. Natural Wines are like travelling back in time as Pet Nat’s have been enjoyed by the French for centuries. Pet Nat’s are typically low in alcohol (usually 10-12% abv) with no added sugars or preservatives, making it a healthier alternative to prosecco – which is usually full of sugar. Pet Nat’s are traditionally cloudy, unfiltered, and often bottled with a crown cap – like a beer, rather than a cork.
